the precolonial economy of zambia
it is vital to recognise that capitalism is an old practice though the term was devloped later. in zambia for example during the rule by the chiefs there was a fom of trade that existed and if analysed well it could be seen to be very exploitative. chiefs and the entire royal family which included the indunas made people to do every thing for them and maximised the profit. if we were to look at todays capitalism and desparities in trade and control of markets by bigger economies, in precolonial zambia bigger tribes had a larger stake in the market. in addition long and short distance trade was controlled by great chiefs and kingdoms leaving the smaller tribes vulnerable and poor. there are royal families that still have linkages with the so called capitalists. for a politician we would ask why? i leave it to you to judge on who a real capitalist is?
