Copperbelt Health Education Project (CHEP) is a non-governmental organization that started its operations in 1988 as a community health service wing of the Kitwe Rotary Club. It started with a mandate to raise awareness, educate and support communities to prevent the spread of HIV.

In 1991 it was registered as a company limited by guarantee. CHEP is one of the very first Zambian indigenous organizations that pioneered innovative prevention, care and support activities such as drama, person to person communication, radio programmes, workplace programmes, home based care and production and distribution of IEC materials.

Through these strategies CHEP has to become one of the biggest local NGO on the Copperbelt province in Zambia, providing technical support to CBOs that it helped create. Aiming at accelerating the uptake of TB, HIV and Malaria prevention, treatment, care and support services by consolidating its strategic capacity building and technical support to community based, non-governmental and faith based organisations in three provinces of Copperbelt, Northwestern and Central Provinces.

Mission:

The mission of the CHEP is to develop knowledge, values and life skills that enable creativity, responsibility and healthy life styles

Objectives

•    To provide resources to CBOs/FBOs to enable them support people to access and adhere
     to TB, Malaria and HIV treatment.
•    To enhance quality household level care and support to orphans and vulnerable children.
•    To advocate for increased community level diagnostics and active case finding
     and management of TB, Malaria and HIV.
•    To enhance skills in organisational, programmatic and financial management systems amongst 90 CBOs/FBOs/NGOs
•    To strengthen the overall governance and management systems and develop the capacity
      of staff to implement the strategic plan

    To sustain the operations of CHEP by strengthening the business component.
    To develop and implement a resource mobilization strategy

Operating methods:

o    Development and Distribution of IEC materials
