Help on how to use the CJA site

This is a very basic user guide for non-technical users of the newly-installed web portal which can be accessed at http://www.citizenjournalismafrica.org

This guide describes how to get started using (as opposed to administrating) your new Citizen Journalism Portal. Basic topics are covered, such as registering for an account, logging in, changing your account settings, and creating content.

The Citizen Journalism Portal is a content management system and e-learning tool. Its goal is to help users to compose and present web-site content such as articles, photos, and other content types and to view course-ware. The portal is a "dynamic" system; rather than forcing users to specify a fixed, pre-declared arrangement of content, the system takes care of the details of how information is arranged and presented, and lets users focus on the actual content to be displayed. Content is submitted by filling in forms via a web browser.

Details may vary depending on the context but the basic process of using the site involves three steps:

  • register with the site
  • log in by typing the user name and password supplied to you in the registration step, and
  • create content, such as articles and stories
