In Uganda, the practice of sacrifice has claimed the lives of many innocent children. The Police report of 2008 alone indicated that ritual murders rose by 80% from the previous years. Media reports hit the headlines daily reporting ritual sacrifice, with the children being the most targeted victims.
In a new development, at Kasusu Trading Centre, which is 4km from Fort-portal town on Kasese Main road, a ritual murder occurred on Saturday night, the 29th of November 2009. Patrick Rwija, Alias Bob, was brutally murdered by unknown people. This is according to a report in the New Vision of 1st December, 2009.
Unlicensed witchdoctors rent rooms located in the centre, where they practice their witch crafting. The same place has quite a number of unlicensed bars which sell Crude Waragi and other alcoholic drinks. The bars close quite late at night.
Since the centre has become a den of witchcraft rituals, one wonders why the District Authorities cannot ban such trade. On quite a number of occasions, residents say, people have been murdered under unclear circumstances.
The most recent was the murder of Bob. Bob was thirty five years old. He was a friendly jolly man, and had established quite a number of friends with whom he regularly joked. Local sources say that he was seen by many of his village mates at about seven p.m. They asked him to go home, but he declined as he was possessed by death.
On the Sunday morning at 6am, his brother was informed that Bob had been killed, and that his body was lying mutilated at Kasusu Trading Centre. His brother quickly mobilized other relatives, who were shocked to find his head cut, and his Adam’s apple and his private parts missing. At the scene there were no blood stains and one wonders if he was really killed at that site.
The Kasusu Police Post, which is just fifty meters away, had no idea about the incident. When called upon on, they referred people to the Central Police station at Fort-portal. “The process of having the post mortem done and body released to us, was too long to be desired” said Bob’s his nephew, Edward. The doctor’s report confirmed that Bob’s body parts might have been used for ritual sacrifice.
Residents in Kasusu say that a similar incident almost occurred to a mad man, namely K***, who was almost abducted by two unknown women and a man in a vehicle. They first enticed him with UGX. 5,000/= and asked him to buy bread to eat -- and they gave him clothes to wear. A well-dressed woman who looked young than K***, posed as the mother. When the passersby who knew the man very well overheard women telling him to eat quickly they intervened, and the woman said “this is my son, he had disappeared from me, many years ago.” When they asked the so-called mother about his name, she said “he is called Kintu”. On being suspicious they intervened by rescuing K*** from being sacrificed.
Today in Uganda, it is commonly believed that for one to gain wealth, they need human ritual sacrifice. Please keep alert Ugandans, as a changing world comes with changing vices.
