In Country training kicks off in Uganda
In partnership with Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) and Busoga Rural Open Source Development Initiative (Brosdi), the Citizen Journalism Programme began a five day training workshop today in Seeta, Uganda. The In Country Training workshop is focussing on journalistic and technical skills of 15 civil society organisations in Uganda.
The aim of the workshop is to strengthen capacity of local CSOs working with women, children and youth, people living with HIV/AIDS and rural communities in using digital and analogue media to deliver quality contributions not only to mainstream media but also in the realm of civil journalism. The objective of the training is to improve capacity of selected African CSOs in the field of gender, children and youth, HIV/AIDS and rural communities to use (a mixture of) traditional and digital media strategically and with journalistic professionalism to support democratic processes and a diverse and independent media environment.
Participants come from a mix of non-governmental and community based organisations. They are encouraged to practise citizen journalism in multiple platforms and or those available to them. Hivos believes that there is a wealth of knowledge and information which the civil society organisations can share with each other and the world.
The Citizen Journalism in Africa Programme is a partnership between Hivos and SANGONet and is funded by the European Union.
