GIDD COMMENDS NGOCC

NGOCC Chairperson Marian Munyinda says women face the brunt of all gender and development challenges that Zambia has.
Speaking during the dissemination forum of the gender analysis of the national budget Munyinda called for increased planning, budgeting in order to minimise the impact of poverty on women.
She said that NGOCC has noted the knowledge gap that exist in gender budgeting and has since embarked on a capacity building programme for gender budgeting.
Munyinda said her organisation has been carrying out the gender analysis of the national budget for some time in order to complement government efforts.
Speaking at the same function Gender in Development Division acting Permanent Secretary Christine Kalamwina commended NGOCC for conducting the gender analysis of the national budget and hoped that the 2009 budget would reflect the recommendations made.
She said the analysis would help government in taking into consideration the various practical issues that were raised adding that the analysis will enhance the subsequent budgeting process.
Kalamwina pledged her division’s committement to lobby for increased budgetary allocation to gender issues.
She further called on NGOCC and other civil society organisations to work with budget and planning government departments through information sharing in the area of gender budgeting.
