The arrest of the head of a catholic owned radio station spark a near riot in Kitwe, paralysing business in the city. Father Frank Bwalya was arrested yesterday evening as reported by the local media houses.

The head who is a catholic priest was determined to hear his case and reasons for his arrest; he was detained and released today without a charge.

The radio station was key in informing people about election results and the outcomes in different districts around the country. This brought about controversy in the ruling party’s camp about the situation which they accused the father of favouring the opposition in its reporting.

Government has accused the opposition of having incited the violence and police have been deployed in various areas of city. Tear gas was used to disperse mobs of people who looted various shops in the city.
