Electronic Media Act of 1996
This piece of legislation provides for the setting up of the Uganda Broadcasting Council to licence and regulate radio and television stations and to deal with all matters relating to the electronic media. Critics say the Council is not in fact independent from the executive.
The Ugandan Broadcasting Council has said in the past that is determined to help promote a healthy community broadcasting sector in Uganda,by making frequencies available and providing other forms of support.
