Uganda Communications Act of 1997
This legislation provides for the establishment of the Uganda Communications Commission. The functions of the Uganda Communications Commission are, amongst others, to monitor, inspect, license and regulate communications services, and to supervise and enforce licensing conditions.The Act also outlines the conditions for licensing of radio and telecommunications services. It also establishes a Uganda Communications Tribunal, which consists of a judge and two other persons. The tribunal is empowered to hear and rule on all matters relating to communications services under the Act – except for trial of criminal offences.
