Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Act, 2003

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Act, 2003, Article 4(1) establishes the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) to regulate telecommunications, broadcasting and the postal services. It merged the Tanzania Communications Commission and the Tanzania Broadcasting Commission.
Because of the way in which members of this body are appointed, and in light of the powers it has and the legislation governing it, it is not considered to be an independent body -- rather it falls under the power of the relevant Minister.

The Act also provides for the appointment of a number of related bodies each with
specific functions. These include a Content Committee, an Internal Review Committee, and a TCRA Consumer Consultative Council.
