PRESIDENT LEVY MWANAWASA DEAD

Zambian President, Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, died this morning 19th August 2008 in France.

This is according to the statement issued by Zambia Vice President Honourable Rupiah Banda, on the state house website, “President Mwanawasa died at 10:30hrs at Percy hospital in Paris, France and informed the nation that national morning and a state funeral begin today, 19th August, 2008 and will be for seven (7) days”.

Honourable Banda appealed to all the citizens to remain calm and mourn our president with dignity.

The President, 59, on 29th June was rushed to hospital with sharp chest pains ahead of an African Union summit held in Egypt and he was later airlifted to Paris where he was receiving specialist treatment.
